Current Small Groups
The Clayton Small Group
Meeting Monday nights, during Advent this group is studying the book of Philippians, and what Paul says about Joy. We chose this for two reasons: our Shalom focus for January is Emotional Shalom, and after the holidays during shelter in place, we all need to find joy! Please consider joining this free-of-cost study. We will email you some study questions before each meeting. This group is led by Jim Whitfield and Marilyn Wollenweber. Contact the church office to get connected.
The Wednesday Small Group
This group is starting a new 4-week series the first week of January. We will examine the book of Philippians, and what Paul says about Joy. We chose this for two reasons: our Shalom focus for January is Emotional Shalom, and after the holidays during shelter in place, we all need to find joy! Please consider joining this free-of-cost study. We will email you some study questions before each meeting. This group is led by Judith Snider. Contact Rebecca to sign up.
Tuesday Morning Men's Group
This group continues to meet every Tuesday morning by Zoom video conferencing. The meeting starts at 8 AM. Zoom is really great, and it is convenient to meet without even leaving home. We have a really good time and the meeting is very informal. The group is currently studying Hebrews. This is a great opportunity for you to check us out., see your friends, make new ones, and see how interesting a Bible study can be. We invite you to join in for a meeting and test the water. Zoom is free so there is no cost. This group is led by David Dowell. Contact the church office to get connected.
Circle IV Ladies' Meeting
Drop in on the first Thursday of each month to discuss Bad Girls of the Bible. This group is led by Anna Belle Horgan or Joanne Myers. Contact the church office to get connected.
Theology on Tap
Theology on Tap's latest study on trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people of faith has us listening to the Good Christian Fun podcast, reading selections from Austen Hartke's Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians, and exploring what the Bible has to say about gender identity. Contact the church office to get connected.
Start Your Own!
If you would like to be part of a small group just to check in with each other during COVID-19, or to have a topical discussion, or just to watch a movie together, email Rebecca and she will be happy to start organizing groups. If you are already part of a small group and could use some help staying connected online, the church has both a Zoom account and a Webex account that you are welcome to use for this purpose! Contact the church office to get started.
"To know that you belong to a God who gathers the outcasts and who commands doors to open before those sitting outside the gates: this is the kind of love that leads to liberation. God did not ask the eunuchs to pour themselves into the mold of Israel's previous societal norms, nor to bend themselves to fit by taking on specifically gendered roles in the current system. Instead, God called for a transformed community that looked like nothing the people had ever seen."
